Donations and Legacies

King’s College Hospital Nurses’ League has always relied on donations and legacies in order to function. The League was founded by a group of nurses who wanted to stay in touch with each other, but it soon expanded to embrace benevolent and educational activities. The original meeting was held in 1924 so in 2014 we will be celebrating our 90th Anniversary!

The Benevolent Fund was launched in 1926 and the Educational Fund in 1930. These two funds are still well used and have charitable status.

The membership fee does not cover all the costs of the general running of the League. The main expenditure of the year is the wonderful informative League Journal. Besides the printing of this there is the considerable cost of postage, both home and abroad. The lunch at the reunion is generally subsidised by the League as well.

Any donations and legacies are always welcome and very gratefully received.

Money left specifically to the Educational Fund can provide a named bursary and can be linked to a particular area of nursing practice if that is the wish of the donor.

Money donated to all the League’s funds, is invested in an effort to maximise the fund, but in today’s financial climate this is harder work. The officers are guided by financial advisors.

The demand on our two charities, unfortunately, does not lessen with time and there are always nurses in need of financial support from either the Benevolent or the Education funds.
